Leland W. Tompkins ‘Lee’, a lifelong resident of the area, died peacefully on September 14, 2019. He was 81 years old.
Born on August 28, 1938 in Stormville, NY son of the late Victor and Grace Agnes (Williams) Tompkins. He was happily married to Helen Barrett until her death on August 12, 2008.
Lee worked for the Putnam County Highway Department for many years before retiring in 1996. Even though he was retired he never slowed down, he was always giving to other and lending a helping hand. He enjoyed Nascar racing, collecting baseball cards and spending hours searching for four leaf clovers. You could always find Lee with a lottery ticket in his hands, hoping to win big. He was a very active member of the Patterson Community church, participating in their penny socials and volunteering his time at the food pantry for the last 9 years. Lee also enjoyed going to yard sales and having his own yard sales. One of his greatest passions in life was his love for his family and all children.
Lee is survived by his daughters; Carol Ann Tompkins and Linda Lee Ettari, his 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held later and at the convenience of the family. Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY assisted the family with arrangements.
