Obituary for Edward C. Nagel


Edward C. Nagel, age 84, passed away after a long illness, on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY
Edward was born on April 22, 1934 to Frederick and Elizabeth (Bates) Nagel in Manhattan. He attended and graduated from Rice High School in 1953. On February 27, 1954, Edward married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Roche at St. Frances de chantel in the Bronx.
“Popi” as he was lovingly known by his family, is survived by four daughters; Mary Jo Hutchings of Dover Plains, Loretta Sosa of Carmel, Judy Roberts of Stony Point, Cathy Meyer of Brewster and a son Edward C. Nagel II of Ft. Worth TX. He is also survived by eight grandsons, four granddaughters, three great-grandsons and four great granddaughters. He is predeceased by his loving wife Mary and a sister Patricia A. Beneway.
Edward who was fondly known as “Red” by his friends, was a member of Pootatuck Archers and Putnam Fish and Game Club, as well as an instructor for NYS Sportsman Education in rifle and archery education. Ed was employed by American Oil Company and Solomon Brothers as a computer operator. He also worked as a security guard for Putnam Hospital Center.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on July 15, between the hours of 2 and 6pm, at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster. A mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church on July 16, at 10am, followed by burial at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maria Ferrari Children’s Hospital, Pediaric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Valhalla, NY
