Obituary for Leon L. Heady

Leon L. Heady, 89, was reunited with his loving wife Kathleen (Mitchell) on March 29, 2018 after a very long separation. Leon was an energetic, proud man who enjoyed sharing a meal with friends at the picnic table beside his pond. He spent many hours grooming his yard, once part of his family’s farm, creating a bucolic place to enjoy a summer afternoon. At an earlier time, you might find him organizing a neighborhood baseball game, sledding or ice-skating party. Leon left the family farm after marrying Kathleen to work with her father as a Metal Lather in Local 46. He will be best remembered behind the counter at Kinglsey’s market, where his quick wit and easy laugh brought a daily parade of customers who came not only for food and lottery tickets but to engage in his ever ready verbal jousting.

Leon is survived by his devoted sons, Stephen and Richard, with whom he made his home, daughter Nancy Russell (Bob); grandchildren Matthew and Kathleen Waldvogel (Taylor), Michael (Blair), Sally (Tim), Lauryn (Kyle) and Ian (Lauren) Russell, great-granddaughter Nora Youell; sisters-in-law Joan Heady and Peg Baccaglini, and many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to niece, Joyce Heady, family friend and counselor, George Sica, Barbara Guera RN and CNA Latisha of Hospice of Westchester/Putnam.

Friends and family may gather on April 12, 2018 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Beecher Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. April 13, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, Somers.

Donations in Leon’s memory may be made to Friends of Karen, Croton Falls Fire Department, North Salem Ambulance Corp. or Hospice.
